News from the Past

I have been looking through old Middlesex Chronicle newspapers, from 1867, and thought that maybe our visitors to the website would like to see a few snippets from them. I will change them every so often, probably monthly, so more information can be seen.

For a starter I have picked a couple of smaller things to whet your appitite!

Middlesex Chronicle
Vol IX No 418

Saturday January 5th, 1867

Cost 1 1/2d (three-hapence) (less than 1 new pence)

•Wm H. Barber (son of the late Mr. S. Barber, of Brentford Bridge) begs most respectfully to inform his friends and the inhabitants of Brentford and the vicinity, that he intends giving an ENTERTAINMENT at the above hall on MONDAY EVENING January 7th 1867

W. H. Barber, on making his first appearance at his native place, hopes to ensure a large share of public patronage.

He intends performing the whole of the late Colonel Stodare's Programme, also several of his own inventions.

He also intends exposing the Secret of the Great Sphinx.

The programme will be divided into three parts.

Part 1. Natural Magic

Part 2. A Miscellanious Entertainment

Part 3. The second part of 'Magic' introducing the 'Marvellous Growth of Flowers.' (on a new principle, invented by W.H.B.)

Doors open at half past seven commence at eight.

Cattle Plague happened in Middlesex County, but the only real info I could find came from Cumberland, so I used that. I hope you find it interesting.

In Middlesex there were six cases of cattle-plague in the week ending Saturday December 22, being the same number as in the previous week.
