Welcome To Spelthorne Museum

Woolly mammoths tusks from the Ice Age, tools from the Stone Age, a large collection of Roman artefacts, a 1738 fire engine and Victorian memorabilia, Spelthorne Museum has the whole history of this area we know as Spelthorne.

From its original home in the Old fire Station, in 2006 Spelthorne Museum moved into a more central location with its entrance through Staines Library, Friends Walk, Staines. It is in two halves, the first half, The Elmsleigh Room is open during Library opening hours and follows the river of time from the Ice Age to modern times, perfect for a quiet browse.

The second half, The Thames Room, opens when volunteers are on duty. Spelthorne Museum is entirely run by volunteers. The friendly, trained volunteers on duty will attempt to answer any queries you may have, if they cannot then there is an Enquiry System which takes your question forward.

The museum is fully wheelchair accessible. Riverside and Tothill car parks are nearby, both with disabled parking spaces. The bus station is 100m away, the railway station about ½ mile away and there are ample public moorings for river users.

Admission is free and all are welcome! Please contact us if you would like to arrange a group visit or come to the museum during alternative hours. There is a museum shop stocking local history publications, postcards and small collectables.

The Museum is divided into two rooms -
The Elmsleigh Room, which covers the history of Spelthorne, from the Ice Age to modern times. There is a digital photo album and one display case which is changed monthly and looks through the ‘Window on Spelthorne’
The Thames Room, which has a replica Roman shop, a traditional Victorian kitchen layout, a 1738 parish fire engine, a collection of china Souvenirs of Spelthorne, the Temporary Display area with displays changing every six months and the Museum Shop selling local history books, postcards and other history related items. and is open when Volunteers are on duty.
